Side tangent process geometry

Command

With the Side tangent process geometry command, a dedicated contour process geometry can be created. It is a special contour definition at the boundary on a surface, which normal direction is determined by the iso parameter of the surface, i.e. the tangent direction at the surface.

The first element to select is the tangent surface. A single face can be picked, but the selection can also be extended with the common multiple selection possibilities. After completion, the selection has to be confirmed with either the key or the execution button in the panel. Picking the control in the panel again enables to modify the surface selection. At this point two cases are possible.

Closed surface

In one situation the selected surfaces build a ‘closed’ area.

It means that the upper and lower boundaries of that area also build a closed contour. In that case the system will automatically use these boundaries to define the upper and lower guiding curves. The panel responds accordingly.

The process geometry can be generated without any further selection, except for the confirmation.

The auto-detected contour may be replaced by a user defined contour. Simply pick the control in the panel and select an edge to start the contour search.

Open surface

For ‘open’ surfaces the system might not find the necessary upper and lower guiding curves automatically. In that case they have to be defined manually.

For each guiding curve the contour search will be initiated.

The wanted guiding curve has to be confirmed, which is marked in the panel.

At any time before the final creation of the process geometry each guiding curve can be edited by clicking the control in the panel. The new selection will replace the existing guiding curve.
