FASTSUITE Edition 2 creates and reads several different document types (file types), in which the information is stored. This page describes what kind of documents the software generates, and how the internal links between these documents is set up.
File types
The following documents, or file types are in use:

 | *.cenres | Resource component | File type for all categories of manufacturing and infrastructure devices, that have some dynamic or static task in the manufacturing process. A single file that includes an object that is built from geometrical parts, kinematic behavior description and other supporting definitions. |
| *.cenrtp | Resource component | Resource component template document. The document is used as template for new to be created resources. |
 | *.cenctl | Controller component | File type of the category of devices, that controls all motions of the kinematic resources. A single file that includes an object that is built from geometrical parts, communication behavior description and other supporting definitions. |
 | *.cenwpc | Workpiece component | File type of all the CAD based geometrical objects (workpieces) that undergo any kind of manufacturing operation. A single file that includes an object that is built from geometrical parts, production behavior description and other supporting definitions. |
 | *.cenlay | Layout | File type of a layout, the assembly of single components and/or (sub-) layouts. A single file that only links to the included files. |
 | *.cenprg | Controller Program | File type of a controller OLP program. It includes all the information to make the program editable, computable, download-able and ready for simulation. For each OLP program a separate file is created. It will be stored simultaneously when saving the Project file (see below). |
 | *.cenprj | OLP Project | File type of the package of a layout, workpiece and OLP program. A single file that only links to the included layout, workpieces and program files. |
 | *.cendoc | Edition2 document package | Common file type. |
The .cendoc file is a special document. The complete context of a single component, a layout with its components or an OLP project with layout, components and programs is collected in this single file. This file can always be used without the need to have the individual underlying files available. Therefore it can be seen as an export file of FASTSUITE Edition 2.
All .cen* files and all interactive FASTSUITE Edition 2 sessions always are built as a Document (.cendoc) parent having a Layout (.cenlay) as the first child, regardless if single components or assemblies are created.
