Workpieces
A workpiece is the component for which the manufacturing, assembly, logistic or any other process is generated and simulated.
A workpiece usually is built from some 3D CAD geometry. This geometrical information will then be enhanced with additional attributes to optimize it for the usage and simulation within FASTSUITE Edition 2. Like other components, a workpiece will have an adapter to connect it to other components in the assembly to define its intended position. The geometrical shape of the workpiece can be extended with additional attributes and properties.
A workpiece is not to be confused with a physical part. The workpiece can both be a single physical part as well as a physical assembly of parts. In any case, within a project the workpiece is one single component, regardless its content. For convenience reasons it is however possible to expand a workpiece as a collection of other workpieces. With that feature it supports the possibility to build an assembly from existing workpieces or to build a collection of several workpiece variants to be handled in a common manufacturing process. Extra visualization functions are included to display the required workpiece state.
