Workpiece union

Workpiece union

A workpiece union basically is a (parent) workpiece that includes a number of other (child) workpieces. Although the union workpiece can be a set of workpieces without any common meaning, it usually represents:

  • an assembly of parts and/or sub-assemblies that are joined together during the manufacturing process and handled as one component after that process.

  • a collection of parts or assemblies that represent a number of variants of the product.

The workpiece union is more than a convenience in having multiple parts displayed together. With the union, all relevant information for the manufacturing process simulation becomes available too. Thus for example, all process geometry from  each child workpiece can be accessed in the parent union.

Union hierarchy

The workpiece union creates a straight forward hierarchy structure.

Each component within the hierarchy can be visualized individually by clicking on the display switch in front of the tree node.
