Create a masking surface
![]()
The Create a masking surface command is a utility to build a simple surface shape that will be added to the workpiece and as such to be taken into account when the support plates of the fixture are computed. With such masking surface, areas of the support plate that the workpiece geometry does not cover (correctly), can be adjusted.
The masking surface is built from a profile that will be swept along the selected edge. The profile shape attributes and parameters are displayed in a panel that will be opened on execution of the command.
| Attribute | Description | Remark | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base length | The tangential extrapolation from the selected edge of the support face. | ||
| Base angle | The rotation of the profile over its start point. | ||
| Flange length | The length, i.e. height of the vertical flange part of the profile. | ||
| Flange radius | The radius between the base and flange part of the profile. | ||
| Flange tamper angle | The angle of the flange part of the profile. | ||
| Run out length | The length of the horizontal run out of the profile. | ||
| Swap in / out | Change the direction of the tangential extrapolation to orient the profile. | ||
| Swap up / down | Change the vertical orientation of the profile. | ||
| Switch support face | When the edge is common for two non-tangential faces the support face, from where the tangential extrapolation is computed, can be switched. | Only is displayed when the option to switch exists. |
After the command has been started on an edge, that will be the guiding curve for the profile sweep, this curve can be extended by selecting adjacent edges with the CTRL-key.

With the Accept and apply button the creation of the masking surface will be executed, after which immediately the fixture will be updated accordingly.

On the masking surface itself a pie menu is present.
