Build the fixture clamp

Purpose

The fixture clamp will be created from an external file containing its geometry.

The geometry of the clamp is imported from an external file to build the clamp resource. The resource is then extended with a kinematic chain and the information needed for simulation.

Steps

1. Preparation

1.1 Switch to the Resource Builder workbench

Switch to RB workbench

1.2 Create a new empty document

If another document is already open, create a new empty document before continuing.

Create a new document

2. Define the clamp properties

2.1 Import the clamp geometry

Import Clamp.stp from the training data.

Import geometry

2.2 Create a new fixture resource

2.3 Give the fixture an appropriate name

3. Build the clamp shape

3.1 Build the kinematic skeleton of the clamp

The kinematic skeleton allows the clamp to move during simulation.

3.2 Attach the clamp geometry to the skeleton

Attach geometry

4. Complete the clamp resource

4.1 Set kinematic limits for the clamp joint

Give the rotational joint an appropriate name and define its kinematic limits.

Set kinematic limits

4.2 Define home positions

4.3 Update home positions

4.4 Define the clamp simulation behavior

5. Save

5.1 Save the completed clamp resource

Save as resource

6. Duplicate

6.1 Create three copies of the clamp

For each copy, update the clamp name and its kinematics, then save it as a new resource.
