Build the fixture carrier

Purpose

The fixture carrier will be created from an external file containing its geometry.

The geometry of the carrier is imported from an external file to build the carrier resource. The resource is then completed with the information needed for assembly use and for precise workpiece placement.

Steps

1. Preparation

1.1 Switch to the Resource Builder workbench

Switch to RB workbench

1.2 Create a new empty document

If another document is already open, create a new empty document before continuing.

Create a new document

2. Define the carrier resource

2.1 Import the fixture carrier geometry

Import B_Pillar_Fixture_Fix.stp from the training data.

Import geometry

2.2 Create a new fixture resource

3. Build the carrier shape

3.1 Attach the carrier geometry to the resource

Attach geometry

4. Complete the fixture

4.1 Reposition the workcell reference adapter

Move the mechanical plug (child) adapter used as reference for placing the fixture in the workcell.

Reposition an adapter

4.2 Create clamp socket adapters

Create a mechanical socket (parent) adapter for each clamp so the clamps can be placed easily on the carrier.

Create a clamp socket adapter

4.3 Create the workpiece reference adapter

Create a mechanical socket adapter at the reference position used to place the workpiece correctly in the fixture.

5. Save

5.1 Name the fixture resource

Name the fixture resource

5.2 Save the completed fixture carrier resource

Save the resource

Be sure to save your data frequently.
