Automatic Collision Detection

Collision detection is a critical safety feature in Shopfloor Assistant. It allows users to visually identify collisions between machine components and the workpiece during manual point**-to-**point movements, machine interaction, or while editing NC points — all without the need to run full program validation.

📘 How the Automatic Collision works

  • Step 1:

  • Select a motion point

  • a line in the NC Editor (e.g., G01, G104) a point directly in the 3D Viewer

  • Using the Interact panel - change the joint values.

  • Step 2: The machine is positioned or moves to that position automatically.

  • Step 3: Collision detection is triggered automatically in real time. If the machine head intersects with the workpiece or fixture, the collision bodies will be highlighted in colored overlays in the 3D Viewer.

💡 Tip: Use the Interact Panel to manually move the machine and observe live behavior for additional collision testing.

No simulation or validation engine is required.

🎯 Operator insights

  • Use collision detection during manual inspection to identify issues early.
  • No simulation or validation engine is required during collision detection.
  • Colored overlays indicate contact — rotate and zoom to fully inspect the area.
  • The 3D Viewer remains interactive, allowing rotation, zoom, and inspection of the collision area.
  • Combine collision detection with the Interaction Panel for reachability testing and advanced checks.
